Volleyball, like every other sport, requires practice to perfect the skills and techniques needed to win games. In volleyball, three important techniques to master are serving, passing and tossing. Correct form and proper technique can be the difference between a loss and a win. Drills can help players, beginners or veterans. Practice and perfect their forms and techniques through repetitive executions of these movements. These drills do not have to be rigorous as long as they encourage the correct form in players. - With a wall at a small distance from the person, the player tosses the ball on a specific spot on the wall. This practice can help the player master proper arm swing technique. To help master a serving technique, the same method can be used. The player can also use a wall to practice hitting the ball. Once the ball is tossed, the player can take the role of an attacker and hit the ball so it bounces off the floor and back to the player.
- It is important for volleyball players to learn to block without touching the net on their way down from a jump. To help master this skill, wall-block drills can be used. Standing in front of a wall, the player can jump up as if blocking, touch a spot on the wall, and come back down. Doing this can help players examine and perfect their blocking positions and techniques.
- To practice tossing and passing, the player tosses the ball to a partner, who passes it back. A variation to this drill is a continuous passing drill from one partner to the other. This not only lets the player practice correct form and technique but also lets teammates help each other in mastering their skills.
