How to Bevel a Snowboard

    • 1). Set your snowboard up somewhere that the snowboard will be stable and that you can work on it. If you have access to several vises, they are ideal.

    • 2). Insert the cutting file into your file guide. Most file guides come with several different grades of stones or files. One coarse grade is for cutting, and another, finer grade is for a finer sharpen and polish.

    • 3). Set the bevel angle that you want. Be aware that changing a bevel removes material from the snowboard, which means that you will not be able to go back to the default bevel.

    • 4). Hold the file edge against the base edge first, and pull the file toward you, using a single, steady motion from nose to tail. Repeat several times, until the resistance lessens and the file sits on the edge without any obvious gaps, which means it has removed all the necessary material.

    • 5). Readjust the file guide for the side edge, and repeat the process for the side edge. Flip the snowboard over and file the other side as well.

    • 6). Replace the coarse file with a finer file and repeat the process for the base and side bevels on both sides of the snowboard.

    • 7). Run your finger along your snowboard edges looking for any burrs. Be careful, however, because freshly sharpened edges will be sharp.
