Leave
A crate marked LAX is moved from an Oceanic plane.
Jack, wearing scrubs, sits at his desk, doing paperwork. He looks at an x-ray.
On the island, Jack washes his hands in a stream and then studies his hands.
The crate is moved through the airport.
Ben makes tea.
Ben loads a gun with bullets as he watches Man in Locke wind rope at the well.
Locke is wheeled through the hospital in his bed and looks at a wheelchair as he goes by.
The crate continues to move through the airport.
Sawyer shuts his locker and puts on his badge. He looks at the mirror that he'd punched (Ep: 6x8, Recon).
Sawyer sits on a log next to Kate and looks at her bullet wound.
The crate is loaded into an Oceanic truck and a man drives the truck.
Kate smiles at Sawyer through her pain.
Kate sits in the Camero by herself in front a church. The Oceanic truck drives up and the man gets out. He opens up the back and Desmond says, "Do you need someone to sign for that?"
"Do you work here?"
"I do indeed, brother."
"You a priest or something?"
"Or something. Do you mind taking it around the back, there?"
"Yeah, sure, you got it."
Desmond goes back to the Camero.
"Who died?" Kate asks.
"A man named Christian Shephard."
Kate laughs. "Christian Shephard? Seriously?"
"Seriously."
"Friend of yours?"
"Not exactly," Desmond says and goes to start the car.
Kate puts her hand over his and says, "Hang on a second.
You bust me out of jail and make me put on this dress so that we can go to some concert and you won't even tell me why we're here."
"No one can tell you why you're here, Kate, certainly not me."
"You're the one who brought me here."
"I'm not talking about the church. I'm talking about here."
"Who are you? What do you want?"
"My name is Desmond Hume, and even though you don't realize it, I'm your friend. And as for what I want, I want to leave."
Kate chuckles. "Leave and go where?"
"Let me show you." He starts the car.
The New Jacob
From behind some trees, Kate watches Jack as he stands in the stream. She looks pained and then walks away.
Sawyer walks to the edge of the water and says, "You okay?"
"Yeah. You?"
"Well to be honest, doc, I'm kind of wondering what just happened up here."
Jack chuckles and walks out of the water. "That makes two of us."
"So you're the new Jacob, huh? Feel any different?"
"Not really."
"Well, doc, how about you come down off the mountain top and tell us what the hell the burning bush had to say for itself."
Need Desmond
At the campfire, Jack tells Sawyer, Hurley, and Kate, "Jacob told me that we have to go to the bamboo forest out past our old camp. Just past he said we'll find the place that I need to protect."
"This place," Kate says, "what is it?"
"He called it the heart of the island. All he said was that it's a light."
"And the Locke smoke thing wants to put it out?" Hurley says.
"Something like that."
"So what if he does?" Hurley asks.
"Then that's it for all of us."
"But if Locke wants to put it out, then why hasn't he?" Kate asks.
"Because he doesn't have what he needs," Sawyer says. "I'm guessing that'd be Desmond." He looks at Jack. "That's where we were headed before your inauguration. Sayid said Locke tossed him in a well."
Jack says, "Jacob didn't say anything to me about Desmond."
"Doesn't sound like he said anything about anything," Sawyer says.
"That's kind of true, dude, he's worse than Yoda," Hurley says.
"Alright," Sawyer says, "You all head to the heart of the island and I'll go get the magic leprechaun out of that well."
"We'll leave a trail, can you catch up with us?" Jack asks.
"Hell, yeah, I can."
"Be safe."
As he walks by Kate, Sawyer says, "I'd ask you along, but that would take all the fun out of me telling you can't come."
"I guess I'll just have to resist the urge to follow you anyway," she says.
He chuckles and walks off.
"I've got a bad feeling about this," Hurley says.
That Was Charlie
Hurley, with Sayid in the passenger seat of his Hummer, drives up to the Flightline Hotel and parks.
Sayid says, "I don't know why you got me out of prison, what you want or who you are, so you understand I can't be held responsible--"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever dude." Hurley reaches into the glove compartment and pulls out a gun. "None of this is ringing a bell, is it? Tranquilizer gun?"
"You are insane."
"Okay, fine, I'm insane. Just wait here." Hurley opens his door.
"What if I don't?"
"Then, that's your choice. But if you stick with me, you'll be happy you did."
Hurley gets out and goes to one of the rooms and knocks on a door.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," someone says from inside and then opens the door. It's Charlie, drinking out of a large bottle.
Hurley is obviously happy to see him.
Charlie pulls the Do Not Disturb sign off the doorknob and shows it to Hurley. "Do not disturb sign. Who are you? Why you grinning like a soddin' idiot?"
Struggling to keep from laughing, Hurley says, "Uh, you have a concert to perform tonight and I'm here to pick you up."
"Didn't I make it clear to Widmore's other monkey? I don't care about a sodding concert."
"Charlie, what if I told you that playing this show is the most important thing you'll ever do? Would you come then?"
"Sod off!"
"Okay, dude, sorry about this." Hurley shoots him in the back with the tranquilizer and then carries him to the Hummer.
"What was that?" Sayid asks.
"That was Charlie."
