Machipongo, Virginia, sits along the Chesapeake Bay and is a convenient location for exploring the area. It also offers easy access to the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. While Machipongo has no campgrounds in town, there are several RV parks in the nearby cities of Cape Charles and Quinby. - Located in Cape Charles, the Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort is a 15-minute drive south of Machipongo. The 300-acre RV park sits along the Chesapeake Bay and rates five out of five for facilities and recreation in "Woodall's" camping guide. The resort offers 725 tent camping or RV sites, including 403 with full hookups, 19 with no hookups and some with partial hookups. Of these sites, 110 are pull-throughs. Sites without hookups are reserved for tents.
Resort facilities include a dump station, showers, laundry facility, Wi-Fi and an on-site store. The RV park offers a pool with slides and other water games, horseshoe pit, boat rentals, kayaking, fishing, miniature golf, tennis and volleyball. Discounts are offered for eight- to 30-day stays. Rates vary. The Cherrystone Family Camping & RV Resort is open year round.

cherrystoneva.com - Located in Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles, 20 minutes south of Machipongo, the 147-site campground include dry campsites for tents only and RV pads with full or partial hookups. The RV sites can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet long. About 70 RV site are shaded. Site amenities include a store and playground. The site's main feature is it's proximity to Chesapeake Bay and the nearby cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Nearby activities include boating, swimming, hiking and nature walking and bird watching. Kiptopeke State Park's camping season usually begins in March and ends in December.

Virginia Island lies along Hog Island Bay and offers horseshoes, miniature golf, a ball field, a boat dock, an on-site store, laundromat and free Wi-Fi.
