If you want to make Windows 7 download files and other data faster, there are certain steps you should use to achieve this.
The problems that cause Windows 7 to download files slowly are actually the same for all versions of Windows and in order to fix them, you should use this simple set of steps to resolve the issue for good: 1) Close Any Programs You Are Not Using - Having programs open other than your Internet browser just makes your computer & Internet run slower.
This is a big problem because your Internet connection only has a certain "bandwidth" and if you have other programs running (such as email or instant messenger applications), then your Internet connection is just going to get split amongst all those programs, slowing it down.
You should close any program you are not using immediately, by pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE on your keyboard and loading the "Task Manager".
This will bring up a Window where you can then close the programs that you are not using.
2) Check Network Computers - If you have a network with other computers using the same Internet connection, you need to be sure that these other PCs are not taking up any more Internet than normal.
It's typical for computers that play online games, watch online videos and generally take up a lot of bandwidth will make your Internet connection and downloads slow.
You should check on other computers in your network to see if they are using any Internet-intensive applications which could be slowing your system down.
3) Run An Antivirus Scan - Viruses often cause a lot of problems for computers as they make your PC highly unreliable and take up a lot of Internet bandwidth.
Fortunately, you can use an antivirus program to scan through your system and remove any of the viruses that are inside it.
This makes Windows a lot more effective and reliable, and if you have any viruses on your system, it will make your downloads run faster too.
4) Clean Out The Registry - The "registry" is a central database inside Windows which actually causes a lot of downloads to run slowly.
This database stores a series of settings for the Internet browsers on your PC.
Whenever you download a program or file on your computer, these settings are used to help it read all the details it needs in order to download the file.
However, it's often the case that these settings become damaged or corrupted which makes your computer run slowly and process the files it needs slowly as well.
One of the big problems with this is that it makes your downloads run slower as well.
You could try cleaning out the registry database with a "registry cleaner".
These are programs which will fix any damaged registry settings inside your PC, allowing your computer to run much faster and more reliably.
If you can get a good registry cleaner, it will actually make your downloads run a lot faster as it will fix all the damaged files that often effect your typical Windows system.
