Former Bolingbrook policeman Drew Peterson made national headlines in October 2007 when his fourth wife, Stacey Peterson, disappeared. a little more than three years after his third wife, Kathleen Savio, was found dead in a dry bathtub.

After Stacey disappeared the body of Savio was exhumed and a later autopsy found that she was the victim of a homicide, not an accidental drowning as originally ruled.

Drew Peterson Wants Wiretaps Tossed

Aug. 27, 2015 - Former cop and convicted wife killer Drew Peterson wants the wiretap evidence the government has against him in his murder-for-hire case thrown out. Attorneys for Peterson said irregularities and circumstances surrounding the tapes should make them inadmissible in court.

The wiretaps are thought to be the state's strongest evidence in their case against Peterson for solicitation of the murder of Will County prosecutor James Glasgow, who was lead prosecutor in Peterson's trial for killing Kathleen Savio, his third wife.

The nine-page motion asking that the wiretaps be tossed lists several irregularities with the process by which the state obtained a warrant to make the recordings. The defense's main contention is that Glasgow's office and employees were involved in the investigation from the beginning and a special prosecutor should have been appointed instead.

Peterson was originally scheduled to go on trial in the case in July, after he requested a speedy trial, but the trial date was changed to August 28 after the defense said it would not be ready by July.

The prosecution did not oppose the delay.

Now, the trial will be delayed again while a hearing will be conducted on the wiretap motion on Tuesday, September 1.

Trial Date Set for Drew Peterson

April 14, 2105 - A trial date has been set for convicted killer Drew Peterson on charges connected with him trying to hire a fellow inmate to kill the prosecutor who was in charge of his murder trial. Circuit Judge Richard Brown set July 6 for the start of the trial.

Peterson, now 61, pleaded not guilty last month to charges he try to get a prison inmate to kill State's Attorney James Glasgow. The name of the other inmate has not been released to the public.

Also, Judge Brown approved a prosecution motion to keep the taped conversations between Peterson and the unidentified inmate sealed until the trial begins, so that potential jurors will not be influenced prior to the trial.

"I just don't feel that it's in the interest of justice that it come out any sooner than it has to," Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker told reporters. "We're not trying to purposely frustrate the public's rights. But there's a greater importance in making sure we aren't prejudicial to Mr. Peterson's rights."

Other pretrial motions will be considered at a hearing in May.

Peterson Pleads Not Guity to Murder-for-Hire

Mar 3, 2015 - Convicted wife killer and former police officer Drew Peterson has entered a not guilty plea to charges that he tried to hire someone to kill the state's attorney who led the prosecution against him.

Peterson waived his right to a preliminary hearing and requested a speedy trial on charges of soliciting someone to murder Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow. Peterson appeared in Randolph County court in shackles.

Judge Richard Brown granted Peterson's request for a speedy trial, which is expected to begin in July.

Feb. 9, 2015 - Convicted wife killer Drew Peterson is now facing charges that he tried to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor who led his 2012 conviction. Peterson is charged with solicitation of murder for hire and solicitation of murder of Will County State Attorney James Glasgow.

The former Bolingbrook, Illinois policeman is serving a 38-year sentence for the murder of his second wife Kathleen Savio at the Randolph County prison where the new charges were filed against him.

More details of the murder of hire case will surface when Peterson faces a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 3.

Glasgow thanked investigators for their work on the new case.

"It is unfortunate that prosecutors sometimes must deal with allegations of this nature. However, in no way will a threat to my personal safety deter me from the important work I perform as the State’s Attorney on behalf of the citizens of Will County," he said.
