Florida Universities With Fencing Teams
- While many associate Florida universities with surfing, volleyball and golfing for students, many state universities also offer the sport of fencing for those students interested in pursuing this classical sport. Fencing is an Olympic sport rich in history that has three primary disciplines: foil, sabre and épée. Students in the United States compete in two national level university tournaments, including the NCAA championship and the USACFC National Championship.
- The University of Florida Gators Fencing Club began in 1998. In 2008 and 2009, the team won two medals in women's and men's sabre and épée as well as took home a combined team trophy. Competitive practice trains members to compete at a national level and in intercollegiate tournaments. Competitive practices are exclusive to members who meet the requirements of active competitive status.
- The United States Olympic Committee and the International Fencing Federation (FIE) recognize the Florida State University Fencing Club. Florida State's Fencing Club actively encourages members to grow and develop in the sport of fencing. Open to both competitive and non-competitive members, the club makes regular efforts to compete in tournaments. The club won the 2010 South Atlantic Conference, participated in the Tiger Open and the Sunshine State Games in 2009 and hosts beginners clinics on a regular basis. The club follows the the technical rules enacted for fencing by the FIE, with occasional minor exceptions that it announces before matches.
- The Santa Fe Community College Fencing Team & Club located in Gainesville, Florida, is a part of the Gateway Florida division of fencing teams and clubs. The members of the Gateway Florida division battle with epees and foils in order to gain admittance to compete in the Division II National Championship. The club has traveled for competition both nationally and internationally and in 2006 won the London Cup trophy in London, England, where the club competed against 38 collegiate teams at the London University International Festival. In 2010, the club added a team tournament to its events.
