    Preparation

    • 1). Dampen a clean cloth and wipe down the interior surface of the waffle iron before using it for the first time. Leave the lid up until it is completely dry.

    • 2). Plug the waffle iron into an outlet. The waffle iron will automatically begin to heat up.

    • 3). Allow the iron to run for five minutes to burn off any residue on the cooking plates. You may notice a little smoke or odor; this is normal. When the odor and smoke are gone, the residue is completely burned off.

    • 4). Unplug the appliance until you're ready to begin cooking.

    Cooking

    • 1). Spray the inside of the plates lightly with cooking spray, holding the canister about five inches away from the plates. Alternatively, dip a basting brush in vegetable oil and brush both of the plates with the oil. Close the lid and plug it in. Wait for the green indicator light to illuminate. This means that the waffle iron is hot enough to cook on.

    • 2). Open the lid. Pour 1/3 cup of waffle batter onto each of the bottom cooking plates (unless the recipe requires a different amount of batter). Close the lid gently, but do not latch it. The green light will turn off.

    • 3). Wait until the green indicator light comes back on. This means that your waffles are done. It generally takes about three to five minutes to cook two waffles.

    • 4). Open the lid and use a plastic spatula to remove the waffles. Avoid using metal utensils as they can scratch the cooking surfaces.

    • 5). Reapply oil or cooking spray to the plates and pour more batter into the waffle iron to make another set of waffles. Alternately, you can unplug the device if you are done cooking.
