Costume Ideas From the Movie "Halloween"
- Michael Myers is not only a popular costume from the movie "Halloween," it is one of the most popular costumes period. Start with a pair of black work boots and navy blue overalls. Cover your eye sockets in black makeup. Purchase a Michael Myers mask online or at any costume store. You can get a decent knock-off for $45 (at the time of publication) or a replica for a couple hundred. Complete the look with a prop butcher knife, the bigger the better.
- The Michael Myers from Rob Zombie's 2007 remake is similar, except for gray as opposed to blue overalls, and a few cracks in the mask. The Michael Myers from the 2009 sequel is more distinct. Look for a Michael Myers mask with the area over the right eye removed, or remove it yourself. Find a long fake beard (think ZZ Top) that sticks out under the mask. Wear gray overalls and black work boots. The new films are significantly more violent, so smear fake blood on the overalls. Layer a dark three-quarter-length hooded raincoat over the outfit. Sling a satchel over your shoulder. This version of Michael Myers favors a hunting knife over a butcher knife.
- Dr. Loomis, played by Donald Pleasance, is the psychiatrist who pursues Michael Myers. Wear a brown tweed suit with a white button down shirt and simple black tie. Use a partial skull cap to make yourself appear balding on top. Apply (or grow) a goatee that extends slightly outward on each side. Dr. Loomis always carried a gun, so find a brightly colored prop revolver. Make sure it is easily distinguishable as a fake weapon and never pretend that it is real. Make sure to walk around with a wide-eyed, slightly disturbed look to get into character.
- Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, is the main character and sister of Michael Myers. While she is a simple school girl, you can put together a look that is recognizable to fans of the films. Wear navy blue slacks and a light blue blouse. Use scissors to cut a rip into the left shoulder of the blouse down to the elbow. Apply a thin strip of fake blood to your bare shoulder to simulate a knife wound. Use it sparingly, as the film was, despite its reputation, not very bloody. Find a long curly dirty blond wig. Look for a '70s style wig for accuracy.
