      Silver Gate, nestled high in Montana's stretch of the Rocky Mountains, is known for rugged outdoor activities and wildlife watching. The town, which hugs the border with Wyoming, is located one mile from the northeast gate of Yellowstone National Park, and three miles from larger neighbor Cooke City. The area is thus often called Cooke City-Silver Gate. Whether visitors are stopping on the way to Yellowstone, exploring what mining historians know as the New World Mining District, or intent on partaking in activities like back-country skiing, ice climbing or fishing, the area offers several lodging options.

    • Pine Edge Cabins offer one-room, one-bedroom and two-bedroom log cabins year-round. The cabins, a mile from the northeast gate of Yellowstone National Park, have full kitchens, bathrooms with showers, luxury down comforters, and small front porches. There's also a general store on site, offering simple food and camping items; it also rents spotting scopes and binoculars.     Grizzly Lodge

    • Grizzly Lodge is open only during the summer season, June 1-Oct. 1. Located a quarter-mile from Yellowstone's northeast gate, it offers single or double rooms, two-bedroom suites, and rooms with kitchenettes. Soda Butte Creek, known for its trout fishing, flows alongside the lodge. The main lodge includes a big-screen television and couches for guests.
