Growing Up:

Ashlee Simpson was born to parents Tina and Joe Simpson. She is the younger sister of singer and actress Jessica Simpson. While Jessica showed talent for singing, Ashlee initially worked hard on dancing and was admitted to New York City's School Of American Ballet at age 11.

After Ashlee's family moved to California when Jessica received a recording contract, Ashlee tried out for television commercials and performed as a backup dancer for Jessica.

Actress:

Ashlee Simpson became a successful teenage actress. She appeared in the TV show Malcolm In the Middle and had a part in the 2002 movie The Hot Chick. From 2002 to 2004 she had a recurring role as Celia in the TV show Seventh Heaven. Despite the acting success, Ashlee Simpson's heart was set on music.

Pop Star:

In 2003 Ashlee Simpson's recording of the song "Just Let Me Cry" was included on the soundtrack to the movie Freaky Friday. Encouraged, she continued working on her music during breaks from filming Seventh Heaven and soon landed a recording contract with Geffen Records. Ashlee Simpson's debut album Autobiography was released in July 2004 and debuted at #1 on the pop albums chart.

Saturday Night Live and a New Start:

Simpson's rock style is nearly opposite the style of her sister Jessica, and it was well received by pop fans. Her single "Pieces Of Me" reached the top 5 on the pop singles chart.

However, Ashlee Simpson landed in a well of controversy in the fall of 2004. She was the musical guest on the TV show Saturday Night Live October 24, 2004. Due to what Simpson later claimed was a problem with her vocal chords and onstage confusion between her and her band, she was caught allegedly lipsynching and abruptly left the stage. Gossip about the performance was rampant, but she made fun of the incident in a Radio Music Awards performance the following night. Plans are underway for Ashlee Simpson to appear again on Saturday Night Live in the fall of 2005.

Ashlee Simpson's first headlining concert tour took place during the spring of 2005. Among her opening acts was then unknown power pop band The Click Five. The concert was well received, and Simpson began work on her second album. She appeared in the movie Undiscovered in the fall of 2005. Her second album, titled I Am Me, was released in mid-October 2005 and featured the hit singles "Boyfriend." and "L.O.V.E."
