Apples represent one of the symbols of Halloween everybody knows about.
If you are a fan of Halloween, there is no way that you don't trick-or-treat for apples on Halloween and so on.
You can even dress up as an apple for all we know.
Here are some things about these special fruit.
Apples used to be associated with the goddesses, with resurrection and with knowledge.
The reason why an apple is cut into two equal pieces is to bring up the five-corner-star in the middle of each piece.
This star represents the pentagram, which is a symbol encountered in many pagan beliefs.
There are different traditions related to apples on Halloween, too.
First of all, those who weren't married used to take a bite from an apple and they have it jumping up and down in a bucket filled with water or they hang it on a string.
The first person to do this is the first one to get married.
Then, people were supposed to peel an apple in front of the mirror which was lightened up by a candle.
This could provoke the reflection of the future husband or wife in the mirror.
Last but not least, people were supposed to cut a continuous ribbon, which was as long as possible, from the peel of the apple.
This way, they could interpret how long or short their life would be.
Obviously, the longer the ribbon, the longest their life would be, too.
As you can notice, apples are very important on Halloween, their significance being of the most representative ones for this celebration.
