The Natural Way of Giving Birth
However, with recent discoveries of modern medicine on various methods of giving birth, who's to say which one is a natural birth and which one is not? Being in labor can be very uncomfortable and painful. For this reason, there are times when women delivering a baby are given drugs like morphine and stronger ones like endorphin to help ease the discomfort of giving birth. When instances like this happen, does it count as a natural birth?
Other soon-to-be moms also take classes in HypnoBirthing or HypnoBabies. Would you consider hypnosis a natural way to give birth? Many would agree that it is a natural birth while some can be a little doubtful.
One of the many procedures of giving birth that is commonly used is called the Caesarean method. It is a procedure where an incision is made on the woman's abdomen and uterus to take the baby out. It is also known as the C-section and it is mostly done in cases when the baby is distressed or when vaginal birth is risky. This procedure is not usually considered as natural birth.
In that case, an animal called the Nile crocodile would stand to disagree. When a Nile egg is ready to hatch but is unable to hatch itself, the mother and father Nile will hear the baby Nile chirp inside the egg. On this cue, they will try to crack the egg open by rolling it between their tongue and the upper palate of the mouth. The baby Nile will then come out. If only animals could talk and when asked if they think this is a natural birth, they will surely think so.
Like animals, human beings will never cease to continue to find ways to make giving birth as pleasant and painless as possible and that our offspring comes out safe and sound. Among the many procedures that can be employed to deliver a baby, whether it's epidural or Caesarean, we can't help but ask questions that would serve as our criteria of an ideal birth program. If you are a mom who had just given birth, you would like to know if:
- you had total control of the whole procedure
- the procedure was administered to you as calmly as possible
- you felt relaxed during the whole procedure
- you felt empowered by the whole experience.
Natural birth or not, your top priority when delivering a baby should be the safety of both mother and baby throughout the entire process.
