How to Write a Speech to Thank Another Person
- 1). Write your speech's introduction. Include how you first met the person you are thanking and how long you have known each other. Depending on the tone of the speech, you could share an amusing anecdote that demonstrates how you feel about the person you are thanking. Wrap up the introduction by expressing a general thank-you statement, which allows you to transition smoothly into the body of your speech.
- 2). Write the body of the speech. Choose two or three things for which you are especially grateful and that you want to highlight specifically. Perhaps the person you are thanking bought you your first dog, or gave you money for college textbooks or tuition or simply lent a shoulder during a particularly rough time in your life. Write down the specific actions and briefly describe them to give the audience some context.
- 3). Write a brief conclusion. The conclusion can be as long as you would like it to be, depending on how long your speech is and how much time you have to give it. However, it can also be as short as one or two simple lines. Reiterate your statement of thanks and end with a warm sentiment, such as, "And I look forward to the two of us remaining friends for a long time to come."
