Most cars will tell you the maximum towing weight you can tow, but if that information is not easily found, you can either contact your car dealer, or do a search online for your car and you should be able to find out that way.
It is important that you know your maximum towing weight.
If you try to tow a caravan that is weighs more than your car can cope with, you and whoever else is in the car could be an accident waiting to happen.
So it is vitally important you make yourself aware of the correct towing weight for your vehicle.
Another thing which most people will immediately take into consideration when looking around to buy a touring caravan will be their budget.
In order to know what kind of money you are looking at you will need to do some research as to how much touring caravans sell for.
If you are not sure you want to pay for a brand new caravan, there are also options where you can purchase a second hand caravan if that is more within your price range.
If you are a first time buyer and new to caravan holidays, buying a second hand caravan first might be ideal so that you can discover whether caravanning really is for you.
If it is, then you can invest in purchasing a brand new caravan later on.
There are a number of different kinds of people who purchase caravans.
People who prefer family holidays where you can travel, those who want weekends away, people who are retired, or friends who can take breaks away by travelling around to different locations which proves cheaper than booking a hotel.
If you are purchasing a caravan so you can take weekends away when the weather suits, you will want to make sure you buy a caravan which has everything you need; especially if you intend to go to different locations where all may not have the necessary amenities you need.
This can include cooking facilities, shower and bathroom, electrical points for things such as TV, Hair-dryers or a fridge.
You also want to make sure you buy a caravan that is of sufficient size for those who will be sleeping and living in it during the period of the vacation.
You will also need to look into how your insurance will change when towing a caravan, this not only means the insurance for the caravan itself, but ensuring that your insurance covers you for towing a caravan, or what extra cost might be added to your insurance.
The last thing you want is to go on a vacation towing a caravan and find out that you are not insured should anything unforeseen happen.
Most dealers can advise you of the things you need to know when buying a caravan for the first time, so let them know you are new to caravanning and ask them for any advice they can offer.
