As a type of sustainable flooring, Aged Woods products are made of mainly salvaged wood taken from aging barns and other out buildings in the United States. Most of these structures are between 75 and 100 years old, and occasionally as much as 200 years old and were built by expert carpenters and craftsmen.
The trees that supplied the lumber grew in a period of a particular climate and unique ecological balance, and are often referred to as old growth trees. They featured a tight grain, and thus provided excellent durability for flooring planks. Today, Aged Woods takes those same planks, and remills them to produce exquisite antique wood flooring.
We transform these old pieces into fabulous home dcor with a very precise process. After rescuing the wood from old barns, schools and other buildings, we closely examine it for leftover bits of metal, which are promptly removed. Then, the wood is kiln dried. Kiln drying ensures that the wood will not warp or buckle with time or weather changes. It also kills any insects that might still be living within the wood.
Next, we put the planks through precision milling and apply the tongue and groove for that perfect fit. Only about 50 percent of the wood we salvage makes it through the final stages of the remilling process, guaranteeing that our clients get only the best recycled wood flooring for their homes or businesses.
