Ask about the account holder's cap limit. Some people have a limit on how much money can be withdrawn from their account on a daily basis. There may also be a maximum check value for the account. Returned checks with the "Exceeded Dollar Limit " stamp can't be redeposited.

Verify the number of signatures needed to cash the check. For example, if you receive a check from a business that has two owners, two signatures may be needed for you to receive payment. Also, make sure the signatures are legible. If only one signature is required, ask yourself, "Does the signature seem irregular or obscured?" If so, then this check may be returned. Be certain that the signature matches the account-holder signature by comparing it to past invoices or receipts.

Make sure the check is endorsed. A check can be returned because the depositor forgot to endorse it. Endorsements are signatures or stamps on the back of a check. You must at least sign in the endorsement blank to deposit a check and receive funds.
