How to Color Coordinate Vinyl Siding & the Trim

    • 1). Pick almost any color you want if your siding is white or a light neutral shade like cream or light tan. These colors provide a clean canvas on which you can add any color you wish without fear of clashing. The only thing you may consider is if you want to use the very brightest, most intense colors for the trim, it can be hard on the eye. When in doubt, go with a color that has been tempered and is a more neutral shade. A slate blue combines blue with a little gray, and is a good example.

    • 2). Match earth tones or similarly neutral colors with colors of the same temperature. For example, if you have a warm earth tone, one that leans to the red or orange for example, like chestnut, that will pair well with a warm color like maroon. For cooler earth tones like clay, a cool green moss works well.

    • 3). Ratchet back the color of the trim if you already have a bright, bold color for the siding. Too much intensity can be jarring. For brilliant colors like canary yellow or coral, go neutral or even try something as simple as black or white. If you want to some dynamism, you can employ the complement, but use a pastel version or a color that has been toned down a bit. For instance, if you have cerise siding, the a soft gray-green would be a great color to match it.
