How to Control Bullhead in a Farm Pond

    • 1). Place the fish feed bait in the funnel traps and set the traps in 2 to 6 feet of water. Set 3 to 5 traps per acre of pond. Check your traps each day.

    • 2). Measure the length of the bullheads you trap. Continue setting the traps, checking them and measuring the bullheads for one week.

    • 3). Add the lengths of the fish and divide by the number of fish you trapped to find the average length of the bullheads in your farm pond. Multiply this number by three. This is the average length of the largemouth bass you will need to stock.

    • 4). Contact a local largemouth bass hatchery and purchase 40 lbs. of live fish per acre of farm pond at the average length you need. Follow the hatchery's directions for properly introducing the fish to your pond. These which will vary with your climate and water quality.

    • 5). Give the bass up to three years to improve the water quality of your pond and up to ten years to remove the bullheads completely. During this time, do not fish the bass unless you are doing catch and release fishing.
