    Heart Cards

    • For a simple project to encourage friendship, create heart cards that express friendship between two or more people. For this activity, fold a piece of construction paper in half. Cut a half of a heart out of the entire folded construction paper, with the center of the heart aligning with the center of the paper. Print, on a piece of white paper, a favorite quote that expresses true friendship to you. Cut the quote out of the paper and place this in the center of the heart, so that when the recipient receives the card, they know your definition of true friendship.

    Friendship Boards

    • Instructors and parents can teach children about true friendship using a friendship board. To make this project, cover a bulletin board with felt fabric, stapling the edges of the fabric behind the board. Attach ribbon in a diagonal pattern over the front of the board, using staples on the back of the board and thumbtacks on the front. Once you complete the board, each participant places a picture which reminds him of true friendship. Instruct him to explain the reason behind the picture he chose.

    Velvet Friendship Journal

    • For friends who spend a great deal of time at each other’s houses or who share a space, create a friendship journal. Start with a blank, hardcover, spiral-bound journal, such as the kind you buy from a local bookstore. Measure the cover of the journal. Cut a rectangle of velvet that’s about 1 inch smaller (length and width) than the journal’s cover. Using a fabric stamp and an iron, stamp the front of the velvet cover with a symbol of true friendship, such as a heart or two people holding hands. Once the velvet dries from the stamping process, glue it to the front of the journal. After making the journal, save mementos in the journals pages, including notes, pictures and ticket stubs for shared events.

    Friendship Bracelets

For some, one of the most iconic representations of true friendship is the friendship bracelet, made by lacing together four or more strings. Use the creation of friendship bracelets to teach children about the elements of friendship. For this lesson, each color of string in the bracelet stands corresponds to an element. For example, Forever Families of Brigham Young University suggests that love, respect and compassion are all essential elements of friendship. You may choose the colors pink for love, brown for respect and white for compassion.
