How to Replace a Power Steering Pump on a Ford Focus

    • 1). Loosen the bolts that connect the power steering pump to the firewall with the ratchet set. Do not remove the bolts. Place the drain container under the power steering pump. Loosen the nut that is connecting the hose to the pump, pull the hose away from the pump, and let the pump drain into the drain container.

    • 2). Loosen the nut in the center of the pulley with the pliers to loosen the belt. Pull the belt off of the pulley. Once the pump has completely drained, remove the bolts securing the pump to the fire wall.

    • 3). Pull the power steering pump out of the engine compartment.

    • 4). Place the new power steering pump into the same place and position as the old power steering pump. Secure the new power steering pump to the firewall with the securing bolts. Tighten the bolts with the ratchet set.

    • 5). Place the power steering belt back around the pulley and tighten the pulley's nut with the pliers.

    • 6). Reconnected the power steering hose to the bottom of the pump and tighten with the pliers.

    • 7). Fill the power steering pump with fresh power steering fluid.
