How to Mount a Wall Mailbox When Holes Do Not Match
- 1). Remove the old mailbox with a screwdriver. Place the replacement mailbox over the location. Set a level on top of the mailbox and adjust for level. Mark the new holes onto the exterior of the house.
- 2). Fill the old holes with wood putty using a putty knife. Allow the wood putty to dry. Sand the wood putty flush with the siding of the house.
- 3). Touch up the puttied and sanded areas with the exterior touch-up paint for your siding. Allow the paint to dry.
- 4). Drill a 1/16-inch pilot hole 1 1/2 inches deep at each of the marks for the new holes using a 1/16-inch drill bit and drill.
- 5). Align the replacement mailbox so that the holes line up with the newly drilled pilot holes in the wood siding. Fasten the mailbox in place using a screwdriver and the provided screws.
