TIJUCA FOREST

This forest is situated in the Tijuca National Park which is one of the largest urban forests in the world. A visit to this forest will give you an idea of its recent past and the reason for the forest growing into what it is today. The Tijuca forest had become deforested to make place for coffee plantations in the mid 1900s which adversely affected the local rainfall. As a result, the government took the initiative to plant thousands of seedlings of plants that are typical to the Atlantic Forest. This step has restored the ecological balance of this area. Now, the forest is home to monkeys and different types of butterflies. The caves, streams and waterfalls, like Cascatinha and Lago da Fada, further contribute to the natural beauty of the place. Ti will take you a couple of days to explore the forest. The Gavea Stone in itself will take you one whole day to go and come back.

MARACANA STADIUM

Football is synonymous to Brazil. A visit to the Maracana stadium will give you the opportunity to feel the pulse of Brazil. Since then, this stadium has undergone various renovations. It was here that Pele had scored his 1000th goal in 1969. It hosts some of the biggest matches in Brazil, including the Championship of Rio de Janeiro.
