The Charming Royal Square in Barcelona

Barcelona is indeed one of the largest and popular cities of Spain. You will therefore find thousands of tourists flocking in the city during different times of the year to enjoy everything that it has to offer. The Royal Square is one of the treasures of Barcelona. Located just a small distance from the famous Ramblas, this 19th century square is charming in every sense. It stands on a site where Capuchin convent once stood. It was demolished around 1835 as Barcelona faced urban renewal period. It is on this site that the magnificent square now sits attracting visitors from all parts of Europe and also from different parts of the world.

After the demolition, Francesc Daniel Molina was given the responsibility of filling in the space that was vacant with a beautiful square and also housing. It is then that he came with the beautiful creation that is the royal square keeping up with the bourgeois style as it is the case with Liceu that is close by. It is however a square that has undergone through various renovations ever since.

You will find most interesting the beautifully designed streetlamps. They are among the many magnificent works of the famed architect Antoni Gaudi and he made them in tree shapes back in the days when he was fledgling architect but his talent is clearly evident. Also outstanding in the Royal Square is The Three Graces or The Las Tres Gracias. They are fountains located in the heart of the square and dates back from end of 19th century.

The Royal Square is indeed one of the features that cannot be missed in Barcelona. It has actually become the meeting point for most of the young revelers who frequent the bars and clubs that are nearby for some great time and nightlife. It is without a doubt that Barcelona is one of the best cities that you can choose to visit in Spain. It has a little of everything considered to be essential for a tour of a chosen destination.
