Video: What to Serve With Thai Sticky Rice
Video Transcript
I'm Sandy Garson and welcome to my tiny kitchen, big enough to hold the whole world. I understand you wanted to know what to serve with Thai sticky rice. Well, so, I've made some sticky rice from Thailand, land of the orchids and big smiles and in Thailand, if they were going to serve the sticky rice, it's often called sticky rice with mango. So, I'm ready with mango. And I'm going to brighten the flavor of mango because sometimes it needs a little help with the squirt of lime juice. I think of this as adding sunshine and very bright flavor to our mango. What I have done with the mango is I just put it down on the counter and sliced it in half right up against the, the stone. And then, I sliced, here's the half into strips and we're going to have Thai sticky rice with mango. This is just the way you would see it in Thailand, served you with pieces of mango. And often they would take a little bit of the coconut milk that the sticky rice was cooked in and pour it over at the last second. And voila! Okay, if you don't like mango and you like bananas, and bananas are very popular in Thailand as well because often, they will put sticky rice in the banana leaf when they serve it to you. I simply peel the banana, cut it in half this way, cut it in half this way and then, I put a little bit of honey and a little pinch of cardamom and I roasted the banana in the oven for maybe 15 minutes at 400. And now, we have a very tasty banana which we can serve also with our sticky rice. If you have more people, add more banana. And last but not least of all, here's a very special Thai thing, the, the Thais are very fond of eating mung bean which are very very healthy for you and there they are straight from the store, and they roast them. And so, I put them like this in the toaster oven for five minutes at 350. You can see they're roasted and now, I'm going to grind them right here in your basic everyday ordinary coffee grinder. And voila, we have some crunch and some extra good health for our sticky rice. So, here's to your health and as they say in Thailand, kob-kun-mark-ka; thank you very much.
