In Asheville, home brewing is popular because freshly grown hops and mountain spring water are plentiful and readily available. With so many craft breweries and brew masters, there is a great deal of expertise in Asheville. During North Carolina Beer Month in April, beer brewing aficionados can purchase supplies at a discounted rate from Asheville Brewing Company. Consumers receive a 15% discount on brewery merchandise.

Oyster House Brewing Company Offers Growlers & Flights of NC Beers in April

One popular way of bringing craft brew home from the tasting room is with a growler of beer (or a half gallon jug). For those beer lovers who cherish their growlers, stop by the Oyster House Brewing Company and purchase $6 growlers, cask conditioned ales, or flights of North Carolina beers all month.

New Craft Brew Releases During NC Beer Month

Asheville Brewing Company will be releasing new cask conditioned brews each Friday in April: April 5, 12, 19 & 26. The Asheville Brewing Company has two locations, one on Coxe Avenue in Downtown Asheville, and another on Merrimon Avenue in North Asheville. Asheville Brewing Company is known for brewing and naming some of the finest brews in Asheville: Shiva I.P.A., Rocket Girl and Ninja Porter are all popular local brews, among a long list of original craft beers and high gravity brews.

Pisgah Brewing Company Releases an Amber and a Porter

Pisgah Brewing Company will release a new beer, Cosmic Baltic Porter, on April 11, 2013. Visit the brewery in Black Mountain, N.C, for a tasting and see the New Orleans Suspects give a live performance from 9-11 p.m. On April 25, 2013, Pisgah Brewing Company will release the Pisgah Leaf Amber, another new craft brew. Pisgah Brewing Company is known for its high gravity brews such as the India Pale Ale (7.5% ABV) and has just re-released Benton's Bacon Snout, an interesting, dark, rich blend of Smokehouse Farm bacon, Riverbend Malts, and Sorghum Molasses. Pisgah's new releases are sure to delight the beer lover.

Take a Hops Tour in Black Mountain

In nearby Black Mountain, North Carolina, the public is invited to tour the Hop €n Blueberry Farm. This 165 year-old farm is known for its sustainable farming practices. The tour on April 13th is just $10 per person, and begins at 1 p.m. Participants should be interested in learning to grow hops and/or set up a hop yard.

Float the French Broad River

On April 20th and 27th, beer lovers will have a chance to float the French Broad River with all equipment provided and participate in a beer tasting and brewery tour at Altamont Brewing afterwards, for $50 per person. Asheville is known for its beer festivals. The Best Firkin' Beer Festival is held outdoors, on the meadow at Highland Brewing Company. This year it occurs on Saturday, April 27th. It is dubbed a €pre-prohibition era festival.€ Proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity in Asheville. The €old school cask conditioned beer' served will be complemented by old time music: The Big Nasty Jazz Band. Order food from The Lowdown Food Truck to complement the brews served.
