Table Decoration Ideas for a Picnic Wedding

    • For couples seeking a break from the traditional wedding reception, picnics are a lovely alternative. Whether the picnic will be held at a beach-side location or in a field, you can decorate the tabletops to reflect the theme and style of your wedding. Many picnic table reception decorations can be made easily at home.

    Tablecloths

    • Because the picnic will likely be a casual or semi-casual affair, it would be inappropriate to use fine tablecloths for the reception. Instead opt to use simple colored tablecloths. You may choose to use your wedding colors, or you could use the traditional white and red gingham checkered tablecloths that are associated with picnic blankets.

    Flowers

    • Because a picnic is a form of rustic reception, opt to use simple earth-toned flowers to decorate and brighten the tables. Sunflowers, daisies and black-eyed Susans are all appropriate choices. Do not use fine crystal vases, as these will clash with the picnic theme. Instead use large mason jars to hold the flowers, and use a colored ribbon tied in a bow to decorate them.

    Napkins and Plates

    • Like the tablecloth, the napkins and plates you use to decorate a picnic table will be far different than those you use to decorate a formal reception table. Depending on exactly how casual you want the picnic to be, you may even choose to use paper napkins and plates. If you want it to be slightly more formal, use gingham-printed cloth napkins and Chinet brand plates.

    Autumn Leaves

    • Depending on the season of your picnic, autumn leaves can be used to decorate a simple candle centerpiece. Use a simple shallow platter as the base of the centerpiece, and fill it with autumn leaves. Place mason jar candles in the center of the platter as a finishing touch.

    Edible Centerpieces

    • Because food is generally the focus of a picnic, using an edible arrangement as the centerpiece will coincide perfectly with the theme. This could include a bowl or basket of fruit or even a tiered veggie tray.

    Twinkle Lights

    • If the picnic will be in a tent and will run into the evening hours, consider using twinkle lights to decorate and dress up the tent. Drape the lights from the ceiling of the tent and around the outside edges.
