- 1). Buy a performance chip. If your engine has a fuel-injection system you can install a performance chip that will make your engine produce more power by automatically adjusting functions like air flow and fuel burn. You can either buy the pre-programmed chip or buy a chip that comes with a programming device that allows you to download further modifications at a later date.
- 2). Replace the standard air filter with a performance version like the K & N Mazda 2.2 F/I. The performance filter works by allowing air to flow more freely around the engine, which means that it remains cool and produces more power.
- 3). Change the factory exhaust to a high-performance header system that has a high flow muffler. Increasing the diameter of the muffler allows hot air to be expelled more quickly from the engine, which means that it can produce more power.
