Sidney Crosby was born in the small town of Cole Harbour in Nova Scotia Canada.
Since a very young age Sidney has been exposed to hockey.
His father Troy played hockey for the Verdun Junior Canadiens as the goalie in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
While he never played at the NHL level he was recruited by the Montreal Canadians.
Crosby got his first taste of hockey at the very young age of 2.
His father painted the basement floor white and added blue and red lines.
At three years old, Sidney was already skating on the ice, and practicing his shot in the basement where he destroyed the dryer by constantly shooting pucks at it.
Sidney Crosby played hockey through his entire childhood, and was even interviewed in a local newspaper at the age of 7.
In 2001 his team the Darthmouth Subways went to the final championship and he finished the season with 44 goals, and was named the most valuable player.
He eventually went on to play for the Minesota Shattuck hockey team after being refused entry to the QMJHL because the league did not allow him to play at only 15 years old.
Two years later he was drafted #1 by the Rimouski Oceanic, where he won the player of the year award, the top rookie award, and the top scorer award.
Thus becoming the only rookie to ever achieve all three awards.
In 2005 he was drafted #1 by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
While the team did not perform very well, Sidney Crosby was already making waves and attracting media attention.
He eventually snatched the Lester B Pearson Award, The Hart Trophy, The Art Ross Trophy.
Recently he signed a 5 year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, ensuring he stays with the team until 2012.
