This is an attack that happens any time without a reason to a person.
It is a form of panic disorder.
The causes can be anything.
A traumatizing event that had occurred in that person's life is enough to cause it.
But the person does not necessarily have to be directly involved in the incident.
Being a witness is also enough.
But it depends on the degree of the event.
It depends on how tragic it really is.
The person would feel apprehension and starts worrying about things.
So, what are the signs to look for when having a panic attack? The symptoms are similar to a heart attack but it is less dangerous.
The victim starts from experiencing shortness of breath and rapid heart beats.
It the rapid beating results in chest pains, the victim will now experience numbness in the limbs.
Next are hot and cold flashes accompanied by sweating and nausea.
While all these things are happening, the victim will now experience psychological symptoms.
They first feel detached and start having thoughts of dying or going crazy.
The whole panic episode would last at least ten minutes.
If you noticed, many of the symptoms are things the person would feel when encountering real danger but, in the case of person experiencing panic attack, the danger isn't real.
The whole episode will start from the brain and the whole body will start reacting with all the symptoms presented above.
But the attacks have to be triggered by something.
If a person who is about to cross the road sees a road accident, he or she usually avoids the road with busy traffic.
The traumatizing effect of the place, object, person, or event related to the incident can all trigger a panic attack.
A more psychological explanation is that the brain will trick the person into believing that the object related to an incident can cause them harm or even death.
The body now releases adrenaline into the blood stream.
This will excite the muscles and give it instant boost in strength.
This explains the rapid breathing and chest pains.
For the adrenaline to work, the body needs oxygen and the victim starts breathing in rapidly.
The heart needs to transport this supply of oxygen as fast as possible.
This will make the heart pump faster and the result is a chest pain.
How about the nausea feeling? A shortage of oxygen will occur in the brain and the victim will, in effect, feel that nauseating feeling.
The person will also feel dizzy as well.
If you encounter a person who is experiencing a panic attack and you can see that there is really nothing to be panicking about, the first thing to do is to calm the person down.
Have the person take in deep breaths to ensure that the brain does not run short of oxygen.
For the mental side of things, a therapy will have to be administered.
Relaxation techniques can also be learned by sufferers.
