Below is a minimal list of equipment that you should have in your tool arsenal for gardening.

A Shovel - The shovel is the most important tool you need obviously.
Digging the hole for the plant cannot be done with a hoe.
There are different types of shovels for the different jobs.
A rounded shovel will do fine as opposed to a square one.

Spading Fork - This tool is used to open up the ground before you plant anything.
It resembles a pitchfork and is used to dig into harder soils and loosen it up.
To dig smaller holes, a smaller spade will do.
This will dig the holes for the seeds and is more suitable for more intricate shoveling.

Wheelbarrow - A must have is a wheelbarrow.
Use it to remove the dirt, carry plants and mulch for you car and remove debris to the front street curb.
It can also be used for the yard work around your home.

Rake - A bow head type of rake is necessary for good gardening.
This is not the leave raking rake.
This type of rake is easy to handle and gets the job done.
5.
Garden Shears - Select a pair of garden shears that fit good in your hand.
Clippers are for pruning and shaping the plants or shrubs.
Do not buy the most expensive brand for now.
Decide if you like to garden first.
6.
Hoe - A hoe is good for weeding and cultivating the top surface of the ground to get penetration of water and the nutrients.
You can enjoy gardening with just some basic tools.
I think you could get all these tools for under $100.
Some patience and a little hard work can produce a magnificent garden of flowers and vegetables.
Everyone did it a hundred years ago so why can't we do it.
