    • Bruce hardwood floors are produced by Armstrong World Industries, one of the oldest and largest flooring companies in the world. Because of its strident quality control, Bruce warranties its products for up to 25 years, depending on the specific style of flooring purchased. The key to taking advantage of the extensive warranty is installation. Keep some tips in mind when installing Bruce hardwood floors.

    Subfloor

    • Follow the recommended subfloor specifications to the letter. Wrong material or improper preparation of the subfloor can void all warranties as well as cause defects in the installed product that are not obvious until months or years after the installation is complete.

    Concrete Installations

    • Bruce hardwood floor installed on concrete requires not only a subfloor but also a concrete moisture test that is acceptable under the warranty specifications. When conducting the test, test several areas. Document the test results, and save all test receipts in case you should need them in the future.

    Board Inspection

    • Bruce recommends that the installer work from several cartons of boards at a time in case there is a slight variant in color. In addition, visually inspect each piece for character flaws, such as knotty areas that are unsightly; use these pieces in low visibility areas, such as closets and pantries.

    Proper Expansion

    • Leave a minimum of a 3/4-inch expansion space around the perimeter of the room as well as other vertical obstacles. In addition, when installing in a span over 20 feet, insert a small washer above the tongue every 10 to 20 rows. Fasten the board in place; remove the washers after several additional rows are installed. Never leave the washers in place for more than two hours.

    Adhesive

    • Always use the specific adhesive recommended by Bruce for both the specific hardwood floor you're installing and the specific conditions under which you are installing it. Deviation from specified adhesives will void all warranties.
