Baby Shower Floral Centerpiece Idea
- Buy assorted crepe paper or tissue paper. Make the color selections as vibrant as possible. You'll need green colored paper for the leaves 18-gauge wires, 1/2-inch-wide green floral tape, a wire cutter, scissors, and white Elmer's or other craft glue. You'll also need floral foam, knife, small plush toys, barbecue skewers, colorful ribbons and a basket.
- Cut the wires up to 10 inches long. Cut a small yellow piece of crepe paper about 1 1/2 inches long to serve as the pistil of the flower--the middle part of the bloom. Glue the cut piece about 1/2 inch from the tip of the wire and fold it into place.
Cut the other colorful papers in the shape of petals up to 1 inch long. Glue each end of the paper petal to the end of the thin, yellow strip that you glued earlier. Place each petal evenly in rounds so the upper part of the stem is surrounded with petals. Add more petals if you want to make it thicker.
Cut several pieces of the green paper into leaf shapes about an inch long and set them aside.
Dab glue at the end of the floral tape and stick it on the lowest part of the petals. Wrap the entire stem in tape by holding it at a diagonal angle and then twirling the stem in your hand. Stop at a point where you would add a leaf. Place the bottom part of the leaf and wrap it with floral tape. Continue to twirl the tape, adding as many leaves as you want. Cut the floral tape when you reach the lowest part of the stem, leaving about 1/2 inch. Fold it up and glue it at the end. Make several pieces of flowers for your arrangement. - Place the floral foam inside the basket and cut it to size using the knife. Insert the lower part of the paper flower stem down into the floral foam. Use the tip of the knife to puncture small holes to make it easier to insert. Arrange the flowers in different heights by pressing down the flowers to different depths. Glue the plush toys to fill the voids and to cover the floral foam. Use barbecue skewers to hold plush toys to different heights. Tie each toy to the stick with the colorful ribbons to secure it into place. Wrap several pieces of colorful ribbon curls around the basket to finish the piece.
