How to Tenderize a Rump Roast

    • 1). Dust the outside of the rump roast with all-purpose flour.

    • 2). Place oil in a large skillet or heavy pan over a medium flame and add the roast.

    • 3). Allow the meat to brown on each side. Continue to turn the roast until all sides are browned. This process seals in the meat's juiciness.

    • 4). Pour the oil and meat drippings from the pan and season your meat with your preferred combination of spices and herbs.

    • 5). Add one cup of liquid to the pan. This liquid does not have to be water. You can also use vegetable or beef broth, fruit juice, wine or any liquid that you would like to use to infuse flavor into your roast.

    • 6). Reduce the heat under your pan to a low flame, cover tightly and allow the roast to simmer. Alternatively, you can insert your pan into an oven that has been preheated to 350 F.

    • 7). Cook your roast for 2-1/2 to 3-1/4 hours or until it feels tender when you insert a fork into the roast.

    • 8). Insert a food thermometer into your roast to verify that it has reached a safe internal temperature. For a beef roast, 145 F is the minimum safe internal temperature as indicated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
