How to Make Thrift Store Leather Jewelry

    Bracelets

    • 1). Take three thin strips of leather and cut them to the same length (each long enough to wrap around your wrist one and a half times) with the craft knife. Lay them out next to each other. Wrap silver wire around the three strips at one end to secure the strips together. Cut the wire and press tightly into the leather with a pair of needle-nose pliers, making sure that the ends of the wire are pressed into the leather so they won’t scratch the skin when worn. Braid the strips together as you’d braid hair, along the entire length of the strips.

    • 2). Wrap wire around the braided strips at the other end, again ensuring the ends are pressed down into the wire. Fit one side of a clasp over one end of the braided leather and press into place over the leather with a pair of pliers. Repeat with the other half of the clasp on the other end to complete the bracelet.

    • 3). Cut a thin leather strip so that it’s just long enough to go around your wrist. Thread decorative silver wire through a bead, leaving 1 inch of wire extending from each end. Place the bead midway along the leather and wrap one side of the wire tightly around the leather with needle-nose pliers, ensuring that the end of the wire is pressed down hard into the leather. Repeat on the other side of the bead and add more beads along the length of the leather if you wish. Press one end of a small clasp over one end of the leather and secure in place by pressing the ends down on the leather with pliers. Repeat for the other side of the clasp on the other end of the leather strip.

    Wrist Wrap

    • 1). Cut a strip of leather 2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around your wrist with a 1-inch overlap.

    • 2). Trim one end to a point. Measure ½ inch from the point and poke a hole through with the awl.

    • 3). Separate a press stud (there should be four parts, two for each side of the stud). Push the top of the press stud through the hole and attach the other half of that part on the underside, pressing the pieces together with pliers. Wrap around your wrist so it feels comfortable and mark where the other part of the press stud should sit at the other end of the leather. Pierce the leather with the awl and fit the two pieces of the stud, using pliers to secure them together.
