A participant in arguably General Hospital’s most memorable storyline, the death of B.J. Jones, Brad Maule (Dr. Tony Jones) was an important part of General Hospital for many years. Unfortunately, today, the Jones branch of the Spencer family has disappeared. Luke’s sister Bobbie was married to Tony, and they had two children, B.J. and Lucas. Tony was killed off, but Maule goes on, though in a different direction.

Background

The 59-year-old Maule, born George Bradley Maule, is a Texas native, where he grew up on a farm. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater, he moved to Los Angeles. There he put not only his acting but his singing to good use, appearing in many theatrical productions, including the Stephen Sondheim musical Marry Me a Little. for which he won a DramaLogue award, a musical revue at the Westwood Playhouse which ran for seven months, and Something’s Rocking in Denmark as Hamlet. 

General Hospital viewers knew he could sing right away.  Who can forget Dr. Jones standing at the hospital elevator singing the Sondheim song, "Not a Day Goes By"?

Maule’s singing skills also served him well when he headlined at the Palomino Club in Los Angeles and worked with The Serendipity Singers touring the country. He also sang back-up for the Hawaiian performer Don Ho and for Bobby Gentry and Jim Nabors.

Dr. Jones Beckons

After appearances in The White Shadow, Charlie’s Angels, Three’s Company, and Too Close for Comfort, Maule joined General Hospital in 1984 as the brother of Frisco Jones (played by Jack Wagner).

The character was supposed to die after a year, but his fan mail was so overwhelming, the producers decided to keep him on the show. He remained on contract until 2000, earning two Emmy nominations (1995, 1997).

In 2000, the actor-singer was taken off contract in 2000, and he appeared on a recurring basis until 2006, also working on the spinoff series Port Charles.

During his time on GH, Maule appeared on Seventh Heaven as George Smith in 14 episodes, on The Young and the Restless in 2004 in several episodes as Reverend Palmer, Passions in 2003 as Dr. Abel, and on an ABC Afterschool Special.

After General Hospital

After his role on General Hospital ended, Maule moved back to Texas, where he currently teaches in the film department at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also did a morning talk show on KSFA 860 A.M. He is keeping up his singing chops with his second and third CDs on the market: Chameleon and Miles and Miles of Texas, both follow ups to his first country-western music CD, Livin’ It Up.

Maule's acting chops have also had plenty of exercise. He has made several films, some in conjunction with his students in the Stephen K. Austin Film Department: Desdemona, a Love Story, Stay with Me (a short), Stanley DeBrock, Hermoso Silencio, and Christmas with the Dead, all filmed in and around Texas. He also hosted a country-western show Texas County Line which sported a million and a half viewers. You can listen to him today on an Internet radio show.
