How to Install a Manual Hub on a Jeep Cherokee
- 1). Raise the front of your Jeep with a jack and then rest it on axle stands to gain access to the front wheels.
- 2). Take off the wheel that the hub is being replaced on, by removing the wheel lug nuts from the wheel with a lug nut tool.
- 3). Take off both bolts from your Jeep's brake caliper to remove the brake caliper and disc brake. Hang the Jeep's brake caliper with a piece of wire to prevent the brake caliper from any damage.
- 4). Take off the nut from the Jeep's manual hub with a long breaker, and keep the axle fastened with a pipe wrench.
- 5). Remove all three bolts from behind the hub, with a 13mm 12-point socket wrench and then place a small axle joint extension at the middle of your Jeep's axle joint and knuckle.
- 6). Open the driver's side door of your Jeep and turn the steering in any direction to release the manual hub.
- 7). Apply some anti-seize to the Jeep's hub for easier future access of the hub.
- 8). Place in a new hub and reattach the bolts with all the components that were removed. Tighten the Jeep's axle nut with a torque wrench to 175 lbs. Reattach the wheel and lower your Jeep to the ground.
