The Hoover SteamVac Is A Very Handy, Multi-Use Tool For Carpet Care

So you want to buy a Hoover SteamVac carpet cleaner.
This is a good choice, the SteamVac is a very popular model and because it is very effective at what it does best, it will increase the life of a very expensive asset in your house; your carpet.
People generally vacuum and clean their carpets "for looks", that is to keep the house looking clean and tidy.
There is another very important reason for looking after your carpet and that is to save money! The need to deep clean or "wash" your carpet with the Hoover Steamvac As mentioned your carpet is an expensive asset, so if you can care for it well, it will last longer and therefore delay the cost of replacing it - this saves money.
Of course another angle to saving money is that by using a Hoover SteamVac you can add another dimension to your carpet maintenance program by deep cleaning, or if you like "washing" your carpet using steam and carpet detergent.
You will no longer require the services of a commercial cleaner - more money saved.
A regular maintenance program is strongly suggested and it needs to accomplish three fundamental things:
  • Remove dirt and soil from the carpet s surface
  • Safeguard the original "look" or texture of the carpet
  • Increase the natural life of the carpet, as I indicated above
There is one basic no-no with carpets and that is to never massage, brush or rub the carpet pile when it is damp or wet.
This is because you negatively impact the natural texture of the carpet so that when the area you have dealt with dries it becomes very obvious when compared to the rest of the carpet.
It is advisable to dry vacuum the carpet on a regular basis - say once a week and maybe more in the heavy traffic areas for instance adjacent to outside doors or in doorways inside.
By doing this you will ensure that dirt and other surface debris will be removed before they can get further into the pile of the carpet.
This reduces the chances of accelerated wear of the carpet by stopping the dirt particles grinding away at the base of the tufts.
The Hoover SteamVac is the second line of defence because suction alone will not always do the trick.
Although it is done less regularly, steam cleaning and shampooing the carpet not only removes any offending particles but revitalizes the pile and can deodorize as well.
Dealing with carpet stains Stains are always a problem in carpets but there are some basic does and don'ts if you should be unfortunate enough to get a stain.
DOs:
  • 'Contain the stain' Soak up any liquid immediately using a paper towel or a clean cloth - anything that is absorbent.
If the spill involves quite large quantities of liquid then the best thing to do is to get some bathroom towels and stand on them.
  • You need to remove as much of the liquid as soon as possible - you could use the wet suction nature of the Hoover SteamVac for this.
If the mess is a solid, such as mud, try to get underneath it to remove it immediately using a flat surface like a spatula or a spoon - don't work it further into the carpet pile.
  • If it is mud etc.
remove what you can, and then you can either leave to dry and then vacuum or use the SteamVac for added clean.
DON'Ts:
  • Never, ever rub or scuff the carpet pile if wet! As mentioned this can cause actual damage to the carpet pile, and make matters worse by spreading the stain.
  • Never flood the carpet with water or any other liquid.
With liquid stains, I'd recommend the use of a proprietary" Wet Stain Remover" - but remember before using this stain remover, soak up as much of the liquid as possible - this is important.
If you don't have any Wet Stain Remover product at hand, then the next best thing would be to carefully dilute the area with warm (not hot!) water and then soak this up using a clean dry bath towel, a paper towel or the wet suction of the Hoover SteamVac.
Be careful not to over-wet the carpet because this can damage the carpet pile by leaving surface water marks, and of course could damage the backing - not to mention the extra time it will be needed to dry.
