Lost in a world of conceptualization Consumerism and materialization Innumerable identity enhancers To improve and exalt my inferior station Until I achieve and reach self-actualization So I can be as proud as a pretty peacock Strut my stuff and all others ooh and watch Exert and who off my astute intellectualism While deluded looking through a tainted prism Seeing the world through my self-centered eyes Reaching steadily for superiority, all others I despise It's all about me you see, the culture of I almighty Out of my way if you dont' have time for me I care not to talk about your needs, nor you I'm fully engrossed with myself through and through It is enough for me be overly enamored with me Although some will call it excess and superfluity Crying, whining, and endlessly complaining Sometimes even our own selves disdaining Discovering the ego's tendencies is mortifying Such realizations are incredibly mystifying That is unless you are conscious and aware Willing to die to self, disconnect, and truly care Otherwise you will continue on in the illusory self Giving little thought to anything or anyone else Because comparing, competing, and complaining Is your egoic mind's staple and treasured sport Is it any wonder why for so long it you do court Angrily defend yourself, your rights, and purport Playing roles, exerting authority, and self-righteously Lord yourself over others controlling obsessively Stir up your emotions and pride incessantly Until you're foaming at the mouth obnoxiously Causing all others to run away from you hastily Then you can be all alone and brew self-righteously Boast about being right as all love vanishes from sight Succumb to your ego and this shall be your plight.
