How to Start a Farmall 400 Tractor
- 1). Open the fuel shut-off valve. The fuel tank extends slightly beyond the side hood sheet. Remember to shut the valve when finished with the tractor.
- 2). Confirm that the gear shift to the left of the driver seat is in neutral prior to mounting the Farmall 400. Do likewise with the hydraulic and power take-off controls.
- 3). Check to see if the dashboard has a fuel control switch. Some versions of the 400 are started with gasoline, then transfer to diesel when up and running.
- 4). Turn the ignition key while the vehicle is at full choke, easing off after 10 to 15 seconds. Let the tractor run a minute or two, then, if applicable, switch over to diesel fuel. Shift conservatively into forward gears and you are off.
