It is a day when people go all out for that romantic occasion and like to come up with a new romantic idea.
Red shot glass candles could be just what you are looking for on that romantic evening.
Red candles in shot glasses for the man of your dreams, is a perfect way to celebrate the day.
I am going to give you an easy way to make these candles because time is of the essence and also you may not have made candles before so here is a way you can do that without have to learn how to make candles first.
How to make your Red Valentine's Day Shot Glass Candles: 1.
Search around and find yourself some red candles - one 10" taper candle will do 3 shot glasses.
2.
Buy some wicks from a craft shop.
3.
If you don't have any shot glasses at home you can probably some from a shop - possibly your local liquor store would have some or a Bar retail shop.
4.
Break the candles into a metal jug.
5.
Prepare your slow cooker by putting it on a few layers of newspaper to catch any wax splashes.
Put 1 ½" of boiling water in the bottom of the cooker and turn it on to 3.
6.
Stand the metal jug inside a slow cooker and put the lid on.
This will melt the wax and it cannot get overly hot because the water temperature can only reach 212°F.
Watch the water level.
When the wax is melted turn the cooker off and remove the jug.
It will be hot so use something to protect hands.
Cotton gloves or a cotton cloth should do the trick.
(If you have not been able to get red candles you could use white candles and at this stage add some red candle dye and carefully mix it in with a wire whisk.
Candle dye can be purchased from a craft shop or candle supply shop.
) 7.
Place your shot glasses on to some layers of paper to catch the spills and pour the wax into the glasses.
8.
Measure your wicks and cut them so that they come about ½" above the wax.
As the wax is setting push the wick into the wax and make sure it stands up straight.
9.
When the wax is completely set trim the wick to about ¼" above the wax.
Melting wax in a slow cooker is a slower way of doing it than over a double boiler but it is one of the safest methods for someone who has not made candles before.
It is a good idea as a safety precaution to have a chemical fire extinguisher on hand when melting wax and a wax thermometer.
Wax is a flammable product and this is why a slow cooker is so good because the temperature does not get high enough to cause a fire but a precaution needs to be in place in case of dirty wax.
But with wax there is always an unknown so that is why safety precautions should be taken.
Have a wonderful evening with the mood set by your Red Valentine's Day Shot Glass Candles.
You never know once you have made your Red Valentine's Day Shot Glass Candles you may wish to continue making homemade candles and the same method can be used to make other glass moulded candles as well or when using the jug, make candles in other shaped moulds.
