    • 1). Prepare the walls. Wash them with a soft cloth soaked in warm water and dish soap. Fix any imperfections in the walls or wood trim by spackling. Sand to make the surface smooth and ready for the gloss paint. Scrape off the old layer of paint if it is flaking or cracking.

    • 2). Complete the preliminary work. Tape the trim or areas on which you don't want the paint applied. Prime the walls if necessary. Take your time when applying the tape around the trim area. This ensures your paint lines are even and straight when you are finished painting.

    • 3). Shake your paint bucket and use your stir stick to mix the paint.

    • 4). Pour your gloss paint into your painting tray. Leave enough room for your roller to sit on the paint tray.

    • 5). Put your roller pad onto your roller handle and dip it into your paint. Roll the roller back and forth until the roller is covered in paint.

    • 6). Coat your entire painting surface with the roller and spread the paint evenly to avoid showing brush marks on the wall. If your are using a brush to paint the wall, brush the wall with one long stroke instead of short strokes. Paint with as few strokes as possible to avoid showing your stroke marks.

    • 7). Allow the paint to dry before adding a second coat. Use as many coats as needed to get the finish you want.
