For cruise ship ports of call, around half of all passengers are likely to board a cruise ship on any of these ports located in the US state of Florida – Miami, Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale. More tourists also cruise to the Caribbean than any other destinations in the planet.

The most popular destinations are as follows - the Caribbean, Alaska, Bahamas, Hawaii, Mediterranean/Greek Islands/Turkey, Bermuda, Europe, Panama Canal and Mexico. The average length of a cruise holiday is just over seven days. In any given day, more than 300 ocean-going cruise ships travel across the world.

Total Investments & Direct Passenger Spending

The cruise ship industry has spent a whopping $7.2 billion for building ships and improving services, in 2013-2014. In 2014, 29 new and bigger cruise ships were built, adding a total capacity of 34,000. For 2015 to 2018, 20 new cruise ships will be added to the global cruise ship fleet.

For 2014, the world's top cruise line companies included Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises and NCL Norwegian Cruise Line. These three firms have accounted for an estimated 80 percent of global passengers, and 72 percent of worldwide revenue shares.

The cruise ship industry globally is estimated to be worth $37.1 billion, which went up by 2.3 percent from 2013. Almost 90 percent of cruise ship tickets or packages were also sold through travel agents, of which the transactions were done online and offline.
