    • 1). Park the Chevy Avalanche on a flat surface. Put the emergency brake on and put wedges behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Drain 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder, using a syringe. Remove the wheel.

    • 2). Disconnect the caliper. Using mechanic's wire suspend the caliper from the frame. Make sure that the caliper does not hang from the brake hose. Disconnect the caliper mounting bracket bolts. Disconnect the caliper mounting bracket from the steering knuckle assembly.

    • 3). Disconnect and remove the brake pads from the caliper mounting bracket. Remove the clips from the inside ends of the caliper mounting bracket and throw them away. Install clips to the inside ends of the caliper mounting bracket. Install brake pads to the caliper mounting bracket.

    • 4). Install the inner pad (one wear indicator). Install the outer pad (two wear indicators). Reconnect the caliper mounting bracket to the steering knuckle assembly.

    • 5). Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or a similar product and allow area to dry. Apply a thread sealer to the threads of the bolt. Do not install the caliper mounting bracket bolts until this has been done.

    • 6). Reconnect the caliper mounting bracket bolts to the steering knuckle. Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 74 ft./lbs. on 15 series or 80 ft./lbs. on 25/35 series. Reconnect the caliper. Reconnect the tire and wheel assembly.

    • 7). Refill the master cylinder to the appropriate level with fresh brake fluid. Pump the brake pedal slowly and firmly in order to seat the brake pads. Drive the car at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.
