Therefore, it is best that you invest in your own cue stick before thinking about where to grip it.
This way, you have a consistent way of testing your gripping placement.
First, get down on your stance.
Extend the cue till it almost touches the cue ball.
Stop at this position.
Now check your hand.
See whether your forearm is perpendicular to the ground or not.
Make sure it is.
If it is not, then adjust your gripping hand forward or backward along the cue.
All of these should be done when the cue stick is not moving and its tip near the cue ball.
