    • 1). Disconnect the vehicle's battery.

    • 2). Remove all lighting fixtures attached to the headliner. Be sure to save all parts and components as they will be reinstalled.

    • 3). Remove all pillars leading to the headliner. Most pillars are held in place by screws at the base and at the top.

    • 4). Remove any remaining screws and brackets that hold the headliner in place. Some vehicles are not built to allow the headliner to be removed without folding it -- which means destroying the headliner. If there is no way to remove the headliner, finish the remaining steps inside the vehicle.

    • 5). Use the template from the DVD player to sketch the location of where you will place it. If possible, draw on the top side of the headliner to allow for variations of the sketching before cutting without making a mess. If there is no template, use the mounting base of the DVD player as a template.

    • 6). Run wires from the DVD screen through whichever pillar is closest to where you will mount the unit (the glove compartment is popular in aftermarket installation). Be sure to have an inch or more of slack in the wiring to assist in easier mounting.

    • 7). Connect wires from the DVD unit to the vehicle's stereo unit. In some cases, the DVD player can be directly connected to the speaker wires.

    • 8). Connect all power wires to recommended location (usually via the fuse box) and the ground wire to the recommended ground location. The vehicle's ground wire already will have the stereo's ground hooked up to it, making it easier to find.

    • 9). Reconnect the vehicle's battery and test the DVD player. If the system works to your satisfaction; disconnect the battery.

Cut the hole in the headliner and mount the DVD screen. Normally, a plastic component surrounds the screen and finishes the mounting. This component secures the top half of the DVD screen (above the headliner) to the bottom of the unit (below the headliner).

Reassemble the headliner, taking care to verify all wires are properly sorted and hidden.

    • 12

      Reattach all removed components.

      Reconnect battery and enjoy.
