How to Build a Mousetrap Car Without Rubber Bands

    • 1). Attach the eye hooks to the base of the mousetrap, about 1 cm from each of the four corners. Align the hooks so the rods can slide through them.

    • 2). Make sure the cylindrical rods -- the axles -- will fit through the eye hooks with enough room to turn. Slip one axle through the eye hooks on the back of the car and one axle through the eye hooks on the front of the car. Make sure the front and back axles are parallel.

    • 3). Slip the washers onto the axles and push them toward the eye hooks. Don't put them flush against the eye hook because you need to allow space for the axle to move.

    • 4). Glue each of the wheels securely onto the axles close to the base of the mousetrap, but with enough space between the wood and the wheel to rotate. Rubber wheels are best for traction, but nearly any kind of wheel will do. Old CDs make a flashy and cheap wheel for your mousetrap car.

    • 5). Tie one end of the string it to the middle of the moustrap's "jaw." Glue this end in place to prevent slippage.

    • 6). Lock the mousetrap down. Take the loose end of the string and wind it around the drive axle. Release the trap and watch the car speed off.
