How to Motivate a Young Child to Learn Piano
- 1). Understand the child's learning abilities. Every child is not the same. You must accept the fact that every child is not going to start off learning the traditional way of learning music. There will be children who do not want to learn music theory from the start especially if they are gifted by ear.
- 2). Strengthen and use what the child is gifted at. If the child learns by ear, subtly use the child's strength to teach him or her music theory but with more aural skills than technical music instruction.
- 3). Use music games. There are cool music games you can use to help the young child's interest in piano. Also, let the child branch off and play games that deal with many instruments. This can help the child to become more creative and you can use this to implement music theory as well. There is a link at the bottom of this page that will lead you to the site.
