How to Be So Scene
- 1). Start a MySpace account and add other scenesters and Indie bands as friends. MySpace is a popular networking tool for scenesters to meet others like themselves and keep up-to-date on the local scene shows and events in their area.
- 2). Attend Indie concerts. Whether or not you've heard of the band, this will be the spot to be seen and be "scene." Be sure to refer to these small concerts as "shows" or "gigs."
- 3). Dye your hair more than one color and style with a flat iron. Most scenesters sport multi-toned chunks of pink, blue or purple over jet black or platinum blond hair. They usually style their razored hair with a flat iron.
- 4). Shop at second-hand stores and American Apparel. A scenester will often frequent these shops to find 80s-style clothes and band t-shirts, as well as ironic t-shirts.
- 5). Wear outrageous, bright eye makeup. Scenesters often wear bright shades of eyeshadow in colors like electric blue, purple and pink. They usually keep the rest of their makeup fairly subtle while their eyeshadow is bright enough to be spotted across the room.
- 6). Make fun of wanna-be scenesters and "straight-edge" scenesters. Many scenesters make fun of those that attempt to fit in but aren't familiar with the music or fashion prescribed by the scene. They also tend to make fun of "straight-edge" people on the scene who refrain from drugs and alcohol.
