Calling all Shark Divers
I can think of a few words to describe your average shark cage diver... Which in itself is something of an oxymoron. There's most definitely a degree of admiration in there from me, as surely getting 'up close and personal' to an animal with teeth the size of Madagascar is something your 'average' person just would not do!
Shark diving is certainly not your average water-sport activity but in South Africa it has certainly grown in popularity since the launch of Shark Lady Adventures in 1992.
Shark Lady Adventures specialises in shark cage diving and offers fantastic trips for tourists and groups of holidaymakers, allowing you to get up close and personal with great white sharks in the Atlantic Ocean.
On a typical diving trip the boat leaves Kleinbaai Harbour in Gansbaai before heading to Shark Alley, just off the coast of South Africa. As well as seeing Cape Fur Seals and Kelp Gulls in and around the crystal clear waters, Great White Sharks can be seen almost instantly when entering the shark cage.
These huge and magnificent animals can be up to 5 metres long and although they are not inclined to attack the metal shark cage, they are one of the most fierce predators in the ocean and can often be seen catching their prey in the choppy waters.
Shark cage diving is an awesome experience for anyone interested in sea-life creatures and sharks and Lady Shark Adventures even offers full diving experiences to children. But for those who prefer not to dive, the great white sharks can also be viewed from the comfort of the boat. Nevertheless, the views are spectacular and this is the only way to get so close to the sharks… the pictures above speak for themselves as to how close you can get.
The Shark Lady Adventures crew, especially founder Kim MacLean, are experts in the field of great white sharks and they have the best experience of cage diving. The company is very well recognised and offers excellent, safe and educational shark cage diving trips.
So although South Africa may be famous for on-land safari adventures it seems there is just as much to be seen and amazed by underwater too! Plan your shark diving trip along with an amazing luxury holiday to South Africa.
